McCoy’s Thick Hot Irish Sauce (THIS)

8 October 2011 | No Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

McCoy’s THIS sauce, which stands for Thick Hot Irish Sauce fits the description pretty well. I am not very familiar with Irish sauces, but I will take their word for it, the sauce is quite thick and has a very small amount of heat. This is a great sauce for someone looking for some variation to their condiments if they can’t handle spicy. The sauce is very similar to a spicy ketchup. The flavor of THIS sauce is better than ketchup, hands down and THIS sauce is also more spicy than ketchup, but not by much. This sauce was great on Burgers and french fries. I am rating this hot sauce a 1 out of 10 on the heat scale.

“Mimi’s” Hot pepper salsa

Mike:  Mimi’s Homemade Hot Pepper Salsa was very good.  The salsa actually contains jalapeno, chiltipin, and cayenne peppers.  This combination of peppers gives the salsa a noticeable bite.  Jarred salsa often loses its fresh taste.  The fresh taste of this salsa was a pleasant surprise, especially since the salsa was made over three months ago.  I am rating this salsa a 4 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Screamin Peaches Hot Sauce

Mike:  Screamin Peaches Hot Sauce is  produced by Sweet Life Sauce Company.    This is an orangish colored hot sauce with a thin consistency.   I did not notice a distinct peach taste, but the hot sauce was quite sweet.   You will notice the sting from the peppers almost immediately and it disapates just as quickly.  This sauce would probably be good on chicken and possibly fish.   I am rating this sauce a 4 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  Screamin Peaches Hot Sauce was not as spicy as I thought it would be, the label made the sauce seem very intimidating.  The hot sauce did have a good sweet taste and it definitely did have some heat, but the heat went away quickly.   I am rating this hot sauce a 4 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Hottest Wings in Atlantic City

12 July 2010 | No Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

When Carrie and I were traveling last week we visited Pic-a-Lilli Pub in Atlantic City, NJ.  This was the place advertised as having the hottest wings in the city.  When we asked the bartender if the wings were very hot, he told us that most people who order the wings are lucky if they can finish two!  He told me that he would be very impressed if I was able to eat six, so Carrie and I ordered a dozen to share.

When the wings came out you could see piles (literally) of cayenne pepper powder on top.  The first bite tasted very similar to your typical buffalo wing sauce.  As we ate the wings, they seemed quite dry due to all of the cayenne powder on top.   Carrie and I each ate our six wings with ease.  The bartender could not believe that Carrie ate all six.

I told the bartender that the wings tasted as if they had a spicy buffalo wing sauce and then piles of cayenne pepper powder were dumped on top.  He said that is basically all they do.  The wings were spicy, but nothing scary.  I would not go out of my way to eat these wings if you are looking for really spicy.  You can recreate the wings for yourself by ordering hot buffalo wings and dumping approximately half a container of cayenne pepper powder on top of the wings.  I am rating these wings a 5 out of 10 on the heat scale.
