Death Wings Challenge- Lindy’s at Redline Sports Grill

3 November 2011 | 3 Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

I recently had the misfortune of trying the Death Wings Challenge at Lindy’s at Redline Sports Grill. The challenge requires that you eat one dozen of their Death Wings in under 20 minutes with no sauce, drinks, or anything besides the wings and then keep the wings down without eating or drinking anything else for another 10 minutes. If you manage to succeed, you are rewarded with free wings….

When I arrived, there had only been two people to succeed at this challenge so it sounded like a good idea to try it. Three of my friends decided to take on the challenge with me. You will have to check out the video to see the results!

I will tell you that this is a very tough wing challenge and newbys should not even attempt this challenge. I am rating the sauce a 9 out of 10 on the heat scale! I was told that the sauce is a combination of multiple sauces and peppers with some powder and two different extracts. One of the hardest parts about this challenge was the sheer volume of sauce, these wings had a thick layer of hot sauce caked on them!

The worst part about this attempt was the aftermath. You probably noticed that I was walking around a lot in the video, that was because my stomach was going crazy. As a matter of fact my stomach continued to rebel against me the whole night. It felt like the sauce was burning a whole through the wall of my digestive system if I laid in one spot for too long!

If you feel like you are extra rugged and have easily eaten the hottest wings at any restaurant that you have

visited, then come to Tucson and give this wing challenge a try! Actually, make sure you let me know that you are going and I may stop by to watch! If I don’t join you, make sure you record your attempt and send it to me, I would be happy to watch it and possibly post it!

Quaker Steak and Lube Triple Atomic Wings

7 January 2011 | 4 Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

Mike:  The new Triple Atomic wings from Quaker Steak and Lube are now the hottest wings available here.  These hot wings have a decent tradional buffalo wing flavor even though they have extract.   I have heard many horror stories about the regular atomic wings and I thought that these would be a little bit of a challenge.  The hottest wings at Quaker Steak and Lube were not as sinister as people had made them out to be in the stories.  Don’t get me wrong, these wings definitely have some heat, but if you can handle the heat of a Habanero, you will be able to handle these hot wings.

Josh:  The taste of these wings was not too bad, atleast the little bit I could taste.  These wings had a lot of heat, but I think that I could have finished the half dozen if I had gone faster, so I want to try again.  I am rating these wings a 10 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Jason’s Mom’s Hot Sauce Review

11 April 2010 | 2 Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

Mike:  Jason’s Mom’s Hot Sauce has a great flavor and a decent amount of heat.  I like sweet and hot sauces so this hot sauce is right up my alley, which is why this is one of my favorite sauces so far.  This is a thinner hot sauce with a reddish-orange color similar to the look of common buffalo hot wing sauce.  This sauce would go great on wings.  I am rating this sauce a 5 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  Jason’s Mom’s Hot Sauce had a good amount of heat that seemed to linger in your mouth for minutes.  I loved the flavor of this sauce because it had a slightly sweet hint to it.  I think this sauce would taste good on chips and pizza.  I am rating this sauce a 5 out of ten on the heat scale.

Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce Review

11 April 2010 | 1 Comment » | Hot Sauce Guru

Mike:  Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce is an extract sauce and the sour extract flavor is very noticeable.  The flavor of the sauce by itself  is not good and the hot sauce is a little thick.  This is not a hot sauce that you would throw on anything for flavor, you would only want to use this sauce to add some heat to a dish.  I am rating this sauce a 7 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  Coming into the trial for Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce, I knew that this hot sauce packed a good amount of heat due to talk amongst my friends.  For the first ten seconds, the sauce seemed to have about the same amount of heat as ketchup, but then it started to build.  The heat seemed to have no end as we hit the five minute marker, I had constant burn in the back of my throat.  By the time ten minutes had passed, i was sucking on ice cubes in an attempt to quell the heat.  For about twenty minutes after sampling this hot sauce, i tried everything from bananas to ice cubes to stop the heat with no real success.  I wasn’t focused much on the flavor, but it was kind of bland.  I am rating this hot sauce a 7 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce Review

29 March 2010 | 6 Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

Mike: Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce has a little bit of a barbecue flavor. The flavor of the sauce is alright for a sauce with pepper extract in it. The sauce is a deep red color and is a very thin sauce. This sauce is more for heat than flavor. Adding a small amount of this sauce to your buffalo wings will give you some extra heat. I am rating this sauce a 6 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh: Endorphin Rush Beyond Hot Sauce had some heat to it. I did not like the taste of the sauce by itself, it may be a little better on a chip. I can’t imagine putting this sauce on anything else for flavor. This may be a good starter for someone ready to take on some heat. I am rating this sauce a 6 out of 10 on the heat Scale

Defcon Zero Trials

The videos below of some people trying Defcon Zero sauce are pretty good. Omar has a tough time with the sauce and then convinces his friends to try the sauce. Notice the very small amount of this sauce that the people actually sample.

The Hot Sauce Guru Samples Defcon Zero

I sampled Defcon Zero produced by Defcon Sauces at the Fiery Food festival.  Notice how much sauce John gave me compared to the people in the other videos. This is easily one of the hottest sauces that I have ever tried.  This sauce has been tested at around 2 million scoville heat units.  As you can see in the videos, John, “The Creator” thoroughly enjoys watching people suffer when they try his sauce.  As you can imagine, Josh and I will not be reviewing this sauce for quite a while.

Jason's Mom's Hot Sauce Trial

We sampled Jason’s Mom’s hot sauce at the Fiery Foods Festival. Jason’s Mom is from Orlando, FL and this sauce became famous from her son using the sauce on pizza across the street from the UCF campus. I thought the sauce had a very good flavor, Josh and I will do a full review on this sauce also.

Good videos of people sampling Black Mamba

Here are a few videos of people sampling Black Mamba hot sauce by CaJohns. This sauce is a pepper extract with a Scoville Heat Unit rating in the millions, which is very hot. You can order your own bottle at www.cajohns.com After watching these videos, there is a video of me in the post below sampling this same sauce and another extract the same day. Enjoy!!

Hot Sauce Guru Samples Some Pepper Extracts

16 March 2010 | No Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

Here is a video filmed by Buddah of www.iloveitspicy.com at the Fiery Food Festival.  The second extract that I sampled has a heat measurement in the millions on the Scoville Heat Unit scale.  I would not recommend trying extreme pepper extracts unless you are able to handle habanero peppers easily.  There were two people that passed out from extracts on day two of the show, I witnessed one of them.
