Death Wings Challenge- Lindy’s at Redline Sports Grill

3 November 2011 | 3 Comments » | Hot Sauce Guru

I recently had the misfortune of trying the Death Wings Challenge at Lindy’s at Redline Sports Grill. The challenge requires that you eat one dozen of their Death Wings in under 20 minutes with no sauce, drinks, or anything besides the wings and then keep the wings down without eating or drinking anything else for another 10 minutes. If you manage to succeed, you are rewarded with free wings….

When I arrived, there had only been two people to succeed at this challenge so it sounded like a good idea to try it. Three of my friends decided to take on the challenge with me. You will have to check out the video to see the results!

I will tell you that this is a very tough wing challenge and newbys should not even attempt this challenge. I am rating the sauce a 9 out of 10 on the heat scale! I was told that the sauce is a combination of multiple sauces and peppers with some powder and two different extracts. One of the hardest parts about this challenge was the sheer volume of sauce, these wings had a thick layer of hot sauce caked on them!

The worst part about this attempt was the aftermath. You probably noticed that I was walking around a lot in the video, that was because my stomach was going crazy. As a matter of fact my stomach continued to rebel against me the whole night. It felt like the sauce was burning a whole through the wall of my digestive system if I laid in one spot for too long!

If you feel like you are extra rugged and have easily eaten the hottest wings at any restaurant that you have

visited, then come to Tucson and give this wing challenge a try! Actually, make sure you let me know that you are going and I may stop by to watch! If I don’t join you, make sure you record your attempt and send it to me, I would be happy to watch it and possibly post it!

Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce Review

Mike:  Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce is an extract sauce and the sour extract flavor is very noticeable.  The flavor of the sauce by itself  is not good and the hot sauce is a little thick.  This is not a hot sauce that you would throw on anything for flavor, you would only want to use this sauce to add some heat to a dish.  I am rating this sauce a 7 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Josh:  Coming into the trial for Dave’s Gourmet Insanity Sauce, I knew that this hot sauce packed a good amount of heat due to talk amongst my friends.  For the first ten seconds, the sauce seemed to have about the same amount of heat as ketchup, but then it started to build.  The heat seemed to have no end as we hit the five minute marker, I had constant burn in the back of my throat.  By the time ten minutes had passed, i was sucking on ice cubes in an attempt to quell the heat.  For about twenty minutes after sampling this hot sauce, i tried everything from bananas to ice cubes to stop the heat with no real success.  I wasn’t focused much on the flavor, but it was kind of bland.  I am rating this hot sauce a 7 out of 10 on the heat scale.

Interview with Blair of Blair’s Death Sauce

27 March 2010 | 1 Comment » | Hot Sauce Guru

I had the opportunity to spend alittle time with Blair Lazar, the founder of Blair’s Death Sauce at the Fiery Food Festival. Blair and his wife were both very nice. Blair and I sampled a new sauce that he will make available in the near future called Golden Death Sauce. I think that Blair was right on rating this sauce a 2 out of 10 on the heat scale. The flavor was great, it tasted like a good buffalo wing sauce.

While at the show I sampled all of the other sauces that Blair had at the show, including Ultra Death Sauce. There is a variety of products available from www.extremefood.com including beef jerky. Josh and I will be reviewing the jerky made with Sudden Death Sauce.
